Deputy shoots person during domestic disturbance in Union County, sheriff says

WINGATE, N.C. (WBTV) - A deputy shot a person during a domestic disturbance in Union County on Tuesday morning, according to the sheriff.

The shooting reportedly happened around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at a house along Canary Court near Maye Street in Wingate.

Deputies said they responded to a reported domestic dispute involving a weapon between two people inside a home.

When officers arrived, a deputy fired their gun, striking one of the individuals. That person was rushed to the hospital and remains in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported, and it was not immediately clear what led up to the shooting.

Deputies said the encounter was an isolated incident and that the community was not in danger.
