"Paramount Global says it's Showtime's most-streamed new series in history, though streaming-specific numbers weren't available," the report reads.

"The success of The Agency is proof that our new Showtime slate is poised to propel Paramount+ to its next phase of growth," said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios in a statement.

Created by Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth, The Agency features an all-star cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Reza Brojerdi and Richard Gere. "The Agency follows Martian (Fassbender), a covert CIA agent ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. The series was initially met with a somewhat divisive response from critics, though it is now "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes at 65%. "Emphasizing spycraft's heavy toll to both intriguing and tiresome effect, The Agency situates its all-star cast in a sumptuously-shot world of espionage," the consensus reads. Audiences, though, have been far more enamored with the Fassbender led spy thriller, with The Agency reaching heights of 89% on the Popcornmeter. MovieWeb's own Matt Mahler found much to enjoy about The Agency, calling it nothing less than "Complicated & Stylish Must-See TV."

"The filmmaking here is carefully thought out and exceptionally executed. Atonement and Darkest Hour filmmaker Joe Wright (who just directed another great TV show, M. Son of the Century) directs the first two episodes with cool finesse. The aesthetic is cold, lonesome, and slippery, which aptly reflects Martian and his job. Wide long shots, a surfeit of reflective surfaces, fluorescence and other artificial lighting, and brutalist architecture all work together to achieve this, aided by the cagey, troubled, but aloof performances from several cast members."
