Elf on the Shelf season is about to begin and families across the country are already getting into the festive spirt as they prepare for the month long tradition.

According to new data from Play Mats Direct, online searches for the cheeky Christmas visitors has gone up 300 per cent over the past month, signalling the excitement or panic for the start of Elf on the Shelf.

So with social media bursting with elaborate displays and nightly antics, it's easy to feel the pressure to go big and bold, and keep up. While the magic is fun, coming up with 25 different scenes night after night can become challenging - especially once the festive rush sets in.

However help is at hand, as a dad-of-four and Play Mats Direct have created some ideas to keep things simple and stress free. The play mat shop and Simon Reynoldson have shared seven easy and budget-friendly ideas that will still delight children without breaking the bank.
