Hot on Friday, before a late weekend cold front

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The StormTracker team is keeping eyes on another cold front that will bring some changes to south Louisiana weather by the end of the weekend.

TONIGHT: Any showers that develop this evening will come to an end. Skies will generally be partly cloudy. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 70s.

LOOKING AHEAD: The weather will cooperate for the first home game for LSU and Southern in Baton Rouge on Saturday. Expect a mix of clouds and sunshine with highs in the lower 90s. The heat index will be closer to 100, so be sure to stay hydrated out there. There is a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening hours. This is all ahead of a cold front that will move through the area on Sunday, bringing a drier airmass behind it. We'll start off next week with lows in the 60s and highs mainly in the upper 80s. Next week will be fairly dry.

TRACKING THE TROPICS:

A tropical wave continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms west of the Cabo Verde Islands. The National Hurricane Center maintains a HIGH chance of tropical formation over the next 2-7 days, but those probabilities may end up lowering over the weekend, as the system continues to battle dry air. For now, it continues to be something to monitor but is no threat to the Gulf or the United States at this time.
