How to watch SpaceX's 8th Starship launch test in South Texas

Officials are warning South Texas residents of possible sonic booms.

SpaceX is expected to conduct an eighth flight test of its Starship megarocket on Monday, March 3 and is warning South Texas residents that they may hear multiple sonic booms.

The astronautics company said its launch window opens at 5:30 p.m., and it will begin a webcast of the event 40 minutes prior to liftoff, which you can watch here or on X @SpaceX.

The company said it has made several changes after losing Starship early during the seventh test launch. These tests are likely to produce sonic booms in the area.

"The returning booster will slow down from supersonic speeds, resulting in audible sonic booms in the area around the landing zone," SpaceX said in a news release. "Generally, the only impact to those in the surrounding area of a sonic boom is the brief thunder-like noise with variables like weather and distance from the return site determining the magnitude experienced by observers."

SpaceX conducts its tests at Boca Chica beach in the southern tip of Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border. The beach town is located about 22 miles east of Brownsville.

The company, led by Elon Musk, is working to establish the area as a new municipality. Cameron County officials recently announced that residents would vote in May on whether Starbase, Texas, should become a city, according to a MyRGV report. The county is where the site is located.

Officials said there were enough signatures on a petition to place it on the ballot. If successful, it would mark the first new town in the county since 1995, according to the MyRGV article.
