Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz Will Still Do Upcoming Movie Together Despite Breakup: Sources (Exclusive)

The exes are set to star in 'Alpha Gang,' with a cast that also includes Cate Blanchett, Dave Bautista and Riley Keough

Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz still plan to work together despite their recent breakup.

Hours before PEOPLE broke the news Oct. 29 that the couple ended their engagement after three years together, multiple outlets reported that Tatum, 44, and Kravitz, 35, were cast in a movie called Alpha Gang.

Production insiders confirm the exes are moving forward with the project despite their fresh split. The alien-invasion comedy will also star Cate Blanchett, Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun and Riley Keough.

Another source tells PEOPLE, "They will continue to work together and are excited about a new project. They both love filming and creating. Channing has a lot of respect for Zoë's focus and passion."

During a speech at the Los Angeles premiere, Kravitz said Tatum "supported me in every way" throughout the making of the film: "It's really very cool to get to make a movie, but when you get to do it with the love of your life, it's even cooler."

And Tatum, on the red carpet that night, praised Kravitz, telling PEOPLE, "To get to create something with someone that you love is probably one of the most gratifying things, other than having a kid with somebody, I think."

What caused their breakup just over two months later in October? One source says, "The split is amicable. They realized they're at different stages in life," while another source adds, "They haven't been on the same page and grew apart."

In a Sept. 3 Instagram post, Tatum shared a photo of Kravitz snuggled up to him while he wrote about how much he admired her work on Blink Twice.

"She pour'd every single ounce of her into this film," he wrote. "I'm so proud to stand ten toes down for her, this film and everyone in it. forever. Knowing what it took to make it. No one will ever know. Thank you for finding me and seeing me. I got you forever. Me and you back to back against it all. I'll never blink. Let's go."

Tatum is currently filming Roofman with Kirsten Dunst, Juno Temple and Peter Dinklage.

On Oct. 28, one day before the breakup news went public, the actor shared photos from the set, filming inside a jail cell. In the Instagram caption, he wrote, "Man, on set today in a prison. Let's just say it's making me very very grateful for my life."
