Londonderry teen dies in crash off I-93

A Londonderry teen died Friday when the car she was driving veered off Interstate 93 and crashed into trees, according to New Hampshire State Police.

State troopers were dispatched shortly before 3 p.m. Friday to a reported crash near mile marker 14 on I-93 southbound, officials said in a news release Friday night. According to police and witnesses, a gray 2008 Mercury Milan was traveling south when it went off the right shoulder and struck several trees. No other vehicles were involved.

The interstate was shut down while members of the Londonderry Fire Department worked to extricate the driver, Lilianna Cawthron, 17, from the vehicle, according to the news release. Cawthron was transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.

Traffic was limited to two travel lanes for roughly four hours during the investigation, police said.

Witnesses and anyone with relevant information are asked to contact Trooper Daniel Morton at 603-223-4381 or [email protected].
