4th December 2025 - (Hong Kong) A man has been arrested following an incident at Tin Shui Commercial Complex in Tin Shui Wai after convenience store staff reportedly restrained a suspect accused of stealing cigarettes. Footage circulating online appears to show two men pinning a man dressed in black to the ground on the mall's lower level before officers arrive and escort him into a convenience store for inquiries. The man was later seen handcuffed behind his back and seated on the floor.
Police said the case occurred late on Monday night, shortly before midnight on Tuesday. A female employee at the convenience store reported that a man had taken a packet of cigarettes and left without paying. A male colleague gave chase and a struggle ensued outside.
Officers responding to the scene arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of theft. A search of the suspect allegedly uncovered identification documents belonging to another man, including a Hong Kong identity card, a Home Return Permit and an Octopus card. The case is being investigated by the Yuen Long District Criminal Investigation Team, Team 8, under the classifications of theft and possession of another person's identity documents.
