Luke Gallows Recalls Vince McMahon's 2023 WWE Return: "Everything Certainly Got Weird"

Former WWE Tag Team Champion Luke Gallows has opened up in a new interview about the ups and downs of his career, including his role in The Undertaker's final match, his two departures from WWE, and the return of Vince McMahon in 2023.

Speaking with Lee Tarrier of PWMania.com, Gallows reflected on the "whirlwind" experience of competing in The Undertaker's final match, the cinematic Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36, only to be released from the company shortly after.

"It really was a whirlwind. We came back in 2019, reunited as the OC, and went into WrestleMania for The Undertaker's last match," Gallows said. "I got thrown to my death, Carl took the final Tombstone ever -- and then, just 11 days later, we were unceremoniously fired." His use of the word "unceremoniously" highlights the abrupt and unexpected nature of the release, which came as a surprise to many fans and wrestlers alike.

Gallows and Anderson would eventually return to WWE in October 2022, a period that Gallows described as feeling "fresh" and "new" under the creative leadership of Paul "Triple H" Levesque. However, that feeling changed a few months later with the surprise return of Vince McMahon to the company. Gallows recalled seeing the "mustachioed man" arrive in a limousine and how the atmosphere backstage shifted immediately.

"Yeah, when we came back in October of 22 it felt great. It felt fresh. It felt new. And then, you know, a few short months later, we're in New York, and we're getting ready to leave the building, and a limousine pulls up, and we see a mustachioed man pop out, and it was Vince McMahon coming back for the first time," he recounted. "And I don't know what goes on behind closed doors there, but from that point on, everything certainly got weird, whether it was the Vince thing and then the eventual sale to TKO and however that timeline worked, but you know, you could feel again, the winds of change."

Gallows made it clear that he holds no grudges towards WWE. "Not at all. There's no bitterness, no hard feelings. You just keep on trucking. That's what you do," he said. In the interview, he also discussed his time working with CM Punk in the Straight Edge Society and his current ventures outside of WWE.
