There was a first-time winner and a traditional winner returning to the top of the podium at the Georgia High School Athletic Association 4A meet earlier this month.
The Northview boys made school history by winning its first-ever state title, while the Marist girls won their 12th title ever and first since 2021.
The meet was heavy on winners who are non-seniors, most notably Midtown sophomore Sarah Paisley Owen, who swept the sprint freestyle events.
Owen first won the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.34, and then later won the 100 freestyle in a time of 48.47, which tied her own state record she set on Feb. 5.
Owen also swam anchor for Midtown's winning team in the 400 freestyle relay, which won in a time of 3:31.75. Other team members were Rhea El-Deiry, Dabney Bond and Katya Tumanova.
Another sophomore standout was Greta Myers of Westminster, who won the 200 IM in a time of 2:05.59 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.11.
Just like the girls meet, a sophomore was the biggest standout. That was Northview's Ashton Tan, who won the 200 IM in a time of 1:50.61 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 49.37. He also was a part of winning teams in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
Christopherson won the 200 freestyle in a personal best time of 1:36.45 and the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:27.11, while Martenson won the 50 freestyle in a time of 20.76 and the 100 freestyle in a personal best time of 44.73.
