The Sydney Sixers have strengthened their future stocks by securing talented wicketkeeper-batter Lachlan Shaw on a two-year contract.
A product of the Cricket NSW Pathway, Shaw made his KFC BBL debut last season against crosstown rivals Sydney Thunder after joining as a local replacement player. He went on to play seven matches, producing one of the standout fielding moments of the summer in a clash with the Adelaide Strikers.
Sixers General Manager Racheal Haynes said Shaw's signing was a great boost for the club's long-term depth:
"Lachy is an exciting young cricketer, and we're delighted he's committed to the club for the next two seasons. He's already had some great moments in magenta, showing the kind of skill and energy that can change a game.
"Lachy represents the next generation of Sixers, and we're excited to see him continue to grow and develop in our environment." Haynes said.
The 22-year-old, born and raised in New South Wales, has long been regarded as a player with significant potential. He represented Australia at the 2022 ICC U19 Men's World Cup, where he top-scored in the semi-final against India with a composed half-century from 66 balls.
Shaw's career has continued its upward trajectory since. Having first earned a rookie deal with the NSW Blues last season, he has now been elevated to a full contract and recently received his first Australia A call-up for the upcoming tour of India.
Shaw said he was eager to build on his debut season with the club:
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to commit to the Sixers long-term. To make my debut last season was a dream come true, and I enjoyed every chance I had to take to the field.
"I know there's plenty of hard work ahead, but this is a great group to be a part of, and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can and contributing to some wins in magenta."
The Sixers will kick off their KFC BBL|15 season against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium on Sunday, December 14.
