Care home celebrates 'Good' rating after negative inspection

A care home has been rated 'Good' in all areas by the Care Quality Commission.

Coombe End Court in Marlborough received the rating following an inspection in May 2025, which marks a turnaround from its previous 'Requires Improvement' rating in February 2022.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) praised the home for its improvements and identified no areas requiring improvement.

Hannah Mason, home manager and peripatetic operations manager, said: "I'm so proud of the whole team at Coombe End Court for achieving a good outcome in our recent Care Quality Commission inspection.

"I'm pleased that external bodies have seen what I am privileged to witness every day: a fantastic team who are committed to the care of our residents.

"Our home is full of energy and activities to make sure our residents are stimulated.

"I am honoured to be the manager of such a lovely home, with great en-suite facilities and a positive attitude to care that matches our surroundings."

The CQC's 2022 review raised concerns around night-time monitoring, internal security, and record-keeping.

Since then, the home and its Trust have introduced stronger security measures, better staff training, and improved documentation systems.

The CQC inspectors stayed overnight during the latest visit and praised the home's 'robust security system' and the quality of night-time care.

Ms Mason, who has supported Coombe End Court since the end of February 2025, introduced action plans and training initiatives and adopted a transparent management style.

She prioritised regular communication, staff wellbeing, and visibility for residents and families by moving her office to the front of the home.

She also hosted regular meetings and provided timely updates.

The changes have been welcomed by residents and their families, who noted visible improvements and a better daily experience.

Inspectors also complimented the care team's compassionate and professional approach, calling some carers' interactions with residents 'phenomenal'.

The CQC concluded that Coombe End Court now delivers safe and high-quality care, and expressed confidence in its leadership and robust action plans.

The home plans to continue building on its progress to maintain and raise its standards.
