Fan Reactions To Geno Auriemma's College Basketball History Say Enough

UConn women's basketball head coach Geno Auriemma has further solidified his place among the greatest coaches in college basketball history on Wednesday.

After guiding the Connecticut Huskies to a dominant 85-41 win over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, Auriemma became the winningest coach in NCAA history, per ESPN.

The victory marked Auriemma's 1,217th win as a coach, breaking his tie with Tara VanDerveer (1,216) for the most wins in college basketball history. VanDerveer retired in April after 38 seasons as head coach of Stanford.

Auriemma has been the UConn women's basketball head coach since 1985, winning 11 national championships in the process. He has also led the Huskies to 23 Final Four appearances, as well as six undefeated seasons -- an incredible feat considering that the rest of women's college basketball has only four.

It's also worth mentioning that Auriemma's incredible winning record with UConn is further highlighted by his massive win streak from 2014 to 2017 when they won 111 games in a row, which is a Division 1 record.

Sure enough, praise flooded in for Geno Auriemma after his latest achievement, with many calling him the "GOAT." Others also highlighted how great he is for building such a dominant program in UConn.

"A true legend!" a fan commented. Another one said, "Lot of championships there."

"Geno Auriemma: rewriting history, one win at a time," a supporter shared.

A social media user further stated, And the crowd goes wild! Geno's got more wins than I have unread emails. Legendary status unlocked!"

A fifth poster echoed the same sentiment, saying, "Legendary status confirmed Geno Auriemma is in a league of his own."

"Incredible career for an incredible coach. The success of this program is [fire]," another follower shared.

Indeed, what Geno Auriemma has done and achieved with UConn women's basketball will be hard to replicate for anyone. And with the Huskies still dominating, his win tally should only increase as the 2024 season progresses.
