Pennsylvania joined 50 states and territories in a settlement with Heritage Pharmaceuticals and Apotex over alleged price manipulation and market control, impacting consumers by inflating prices and limiting competition. The companies will pay a combined $49.1 million and cooperate in ongoing multistate litigation, led by Connecticut, targeting 30 companies and 25 executives in antitrust cases.

"Generic versions of prescription drugs are supposed to be more affordable, while offering the same health benefits to those who need them," Henry said, noting that the companies' actions "harmed Pennsylvanians by intentionally inflating prices and reducing competition."

The litigation, filed initially in 2016, includes allegations against Heritage and other major generic drug manufacturers in cases that continue to expand as more states pursue claims.
