Irish Liverpool fans have been coming under fire following Ireland's incredible victory over Hungary. Troy Parrott was the hero as the Boys in Green came from behind twice to win in Budapest.
The AZ Alkmaar striker scored a hat-trick, with his match-winning goal coming in the 96th minute, as Ireland won 3-2 to finish second in their World Cup qualifying group and secure a play-off place.
Dominik Szoboszlai was trolled by Ireland fans following the full-time whistle after his behaviour irked many fans during the game. The Liverpool player was the star man for Hungary and played a key role in their second goal.
However, his clown-type celebration angered many Ireland fans, who have been having a laugh at his expense ever since. But Liverpool supporters couldn't understand why Irish fans of the Reds were joining in.
Hungarian football journalist Bence Bocsák wrote on X: "I have to admit I'm pretty stunned at supposed Irish Liverpool fan accounts trolling Dominik Szoboszlai today.
"By all means celebrate the moment. But don't bring down one of the best players at the club you support while you do it."
Another person commented: "The Irish Liverpool fans are killing me. Celebrate and be happy for your country but remember our best player this season will come back depressed. This was a loss for Liverpool as much as it was for Hungary."
Someone else wrote: "I genuinely cannot believe how pathetic Irish LFC "fans" are acting right now."
"Yes I've seen many, even if they are Irish Liverpool fans, it's not sensible to troll one of your best players," read another comment.
But some Liverpool fans responded by saying Szoboszlai didn't cover himself in glory.
One said: "I'm a Liverpool fan but when I saw him do this to the Irish fans I was so disappointed, many Irish fans are Liverpool fans, lessons need to be learnt, don't celebrate too fast and don't mock the Irish fans! He looks like the bigger clown for his actions."
Another wrote: "His behavior caused the backlash, nothing else. Opposition fans will always react like that to deliberare time wasting to the extreme that he took it, then add in the clown and crying gestures."
Szoboszlai was lost for words as he spoke to the media after the game as Hungary's wait for World Cup qualification reached 40 years.
