The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped Game 1 of the World Series to the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night at the Rogers Centre.

The Dodgers looked far from dominant throughout the matchup, ultimately losing 11-4. What was once their strength, became their downfall as Blake Snell gave up five earned runs across five innings.

The Dodgers starting rotation has carried the team through the postseason, but a pitching disaster struck in the sixth inning when Snell left with the bases loaded and no outs. Emmet Sheehan could only record one out and allowed three earned runs.

Anthony Banda was tasked with finishing the inning, but gave up a pinch-hit grand slam to Addison Barger to give Toronto a commanding lead.

Manager Dave Roberts spoke to reporters following the blowout loss, and dismissed the idea that the lengthy layoff the Dodgers had played a role in their poor performance.

"You know, honestly, I really don't think the week layoff had anything to do with tonight. I really don't. We were rested. I thought we were in a good spot," Roberts said. "We had a 2-0 lead and then Varsho hits a homer and we didn't pitch well after that. So I really honestly don't think that had anything to do with it."

The Dodgers will look to bounce back Saturday night in Game 2 of the World Series.
