Trump to declassify Amelia Earhart documents based on Saipan letter

In the Pacific, there's perhaps no greater mystery that of Amelia Earhart - a pioneering pilot who vanished somewhere in the Pacific Ocean while trying to circumnavigate the globe in 1937.

Nikumaroro Island, which is part of Kiribati, was long theorised as her final resting place.

However, on the Northern Marianas island of Saipan, that's long been disputed. So much so that recently, the territory's delegate wrote to US president Donald Trump requesting to have classified documents into her disappearance released publicly.

Evidence and recorded sightings from Saipan elders formed the basis of the letter, which Donald Trump has since answered.

Taking to social media, he announced he would order his administration to declassify secret government records related to the 1937 disappearance of the famed pilot.
