President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, are among the eminent personalities expected to headline the 2025 annual conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), scheduled to hold in Abuja on November 12 and 13.
According to a statement signed by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, no fewer than 500 editors, government officials, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps will converge at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall and the Nigerian Air Force Conference Centre, Jahi, for the two-day event.
President Tinubu is billed to declare the conference open, while the Sultan and Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise News and ThisDay, will serve as chairmen of the occasion.
The Guild said Governor Uzodimma will deliver the keynote address on the theme: "Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors", with a sub-theme: "Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027."
"The editors' conference is a credible platform to discuss and proffer solutions to issues pertaining to national development and cohesion," the statement said.
Legal luminary Prof Awa Kalu (SAN) will speak on "Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics," while Prof Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim of the University of Abuja will address "State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation."
On day two, Gen Lucky Irabor (rtd) will speak on "Media, Terrorism, and National Security," and Prof Abiodun Adeniyi of the Baze University will tackle "The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap."
