Su Yin's return delayed by ankle injury, to miss Europe stint

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles player Cheng Su Yin (pic) may have to wait a little longer before returning to action as she has yet to fully recover from an ankle injury.

Mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto confirmed that Su Yin and her partner Hoo Pang Ron have pulled out of their European tour, which includes the Denmark Open (Oct 14-19), French Open (Oct 21-26) and Hylo Open in Germany (Oct 28-Nov 2).

Nova expects Su Yin to make her comeback at next month's Kumamoto Masters in Japan, although it will depend on her recovery progress.

"Pang Ron and Su Yin will not be going to Europe as Su Yin is still nursing an ankle injury.

"According to the doctor's report, she is expected to recover in about four to five weeks, so they might make their return at the Kumamoto Masters next month if she is fully fit by then," said Nova.

Su Yin picked up the injury during last month's Korean Open in her first round match against Thailand's Ruttanaak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat, where she and Pang Ron went down 21-23, 21-17, 19-21.

This is not the first time the 22-year-old has been sidelined by injury. She previously had to take an extended break due to a hamstring problem sustained after the Thailand Open in May. The injury forced the pair to withdraw from three consecutive tournaments - the Malaysia Masters, Singapore Open and Indonesia Open - before making their return at the Japan Open in July.

Su Yin had also slipped on a staircase after a match in France in March, which led to her and Pang Ron pulling out of their Orleans Masters quarter-final clash against Indonesia's Rehan Kusharjanto and Gloria Widjaja.
