The Philadelphia Eagles are building a deeper roster and have completed a trade with the Houston Texans for wide receiver John Metchie III.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles acquired wide receiver John Metchie III from the Houston Texans -- a former second-round draft pick -- in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick. Along with Metchie, Philadelphia also received a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Metchie entered the NFL as the 44th overall selection in the second round of the 2022 Draft, after three seasons at Alabama. Diagnosed with leukemia prior to training camp in his rookie year, he was only cleared to play in 2023, finishing with 16 receptions for 158 yards. In 2024, he recorded 24 catches for 257 yards and one touchdown.
Now, the wide receiver has the opportunity to join the Eagles, who won Super Bowl LIX over the Chiefs and are aiming to defend their title in 2025.
Mitchie sits below AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith on the wide receiver roster, and will compete for playing time with ten other contenders.
