Ceiling collapses during 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' showing

A freak accident occurred during a showing of "Final Destination: Bloodlines," which could easily have been a scene out of one of the franchise's films.

The ceiling collapsed during a showing at Cinema Ocho in La Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina on May 19 at around 9:00 p.m., according to Infobae, an Argentine digital news outlet.

Fiamma Villaverde, 29, her 11-year-old daughter and a friend decided to check out the movie on a whim, but they didn't expect life to immitate art.

"The truth is, we hadn't planned to go to the movies," Villaverde told the outlet in a translated interview. "It was my birthday, we were walking and happened upon the theater. Since the tickets were cheaper than the rest of the week, we said, 'Shall we?' We went in, bought some popcorn, and went into the theater. The show had just started."

Towards the end of the film, a loud crash was heard.

"There was a really loud noise. At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so absorbed, but then a huge piece fell on me," she exclaimed.

Photos of the incident show a hole in the ceiling with debris all over the floor and on seats.

A portion of the ceiling fell on her, hitting her shoulder, back, knee and ankle. She said it missed her head because she was leaning on the armrest.

"I asked for my ticket money back," she explained. "While I was waiting, the theater manager came to talk to me. He asked, 'How do you want to fix this?' I got angry: 'How do I want to fix this? I'm going to file a complaint. Just imagine if they hit my daughter in the head! They're irresponsible!'"

She sustained some bruises and was diagnosed with trauma from the impact and was advised to undergo further X-rays. She revealed to the online newspaper that she suffers from panic attacks and an anxiety disorder.

"I'm undergoing psychiatric treatment and on medication. I have a hard time being in crowded places. I haven't been to the movies in years. I went because it was my birthday, and look what happened to me," she said.

She said she hasn't filed a complaint yet, but has contacted a lawyer.

The theater hasn't issued a statement yet.

The "Final Destination" franchise follows a group of people who relentlessly escape death after surviving a mass casualty event. The films' death scenes are often gruesome and occur following bizarre accidents.

"Final Destination: Bloodlines" is currently in theaters. It's the sixth movie in the franchise, which began in 2000.
