Julian Lennon is navigating a health scare this holiday season.
The British musician, son of Beatles member John Lennon, revealed in a lengthy X post on Wednesday that he was recently diagnosed with skin cancer.
Ahead of his trip to New York for a media tour, Lennon, 61, said he had a consultation with his dermatologist Dr. Tess, who previously treated a mole of his that was cancerous.
"After having just finished ("Good Morning America"), I received a message from Dr. Tess, with some urgency to return to Los Angeles, as I had 2 locations on My Skin, Shoulder (and) Forearm, one of which was Melanoma, that should be operated on ASAP!", Lennon wrote.
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that is often caused by exposure to ultraviolet light, which can be found in sunlight as well as tanning lamps and beds, according to Mayo Clinic. Skin on the arms, back, face and legs are commonly affected areas.
Lennon subsequently flew back to Los Angeles for emergency surgery. The "Too Late for Goodbyes" singer said the procedure was a "success," however he has not yet received the results of his biopsy.
"I'm very thankful to Dr. Tess and Dr. Tim (Neavin), for being able to coordinate this surgery at such short notice, but for once again, hopefully Saving My Life...", Lennon wrote. "One can never be too confident in circumstances like this, but we all believe that Dr. Tim has saved the day... So fingers crossed for now."
Lennon, who also shared a pair of black-and-white photos of scars from his surgery, concluded his post by saying his experience is a "timely reminder to all, to please get yourself checked out by your doctor."
"For the sake of yourself, your family and friends just go to your (doctor) and do what must be done..." Lennon wrote. "I love life and I want to live for a very long time and this is one way, and a choice, that could determine your future... I wish you all happy holida(ys) and a healthy long life..."
