BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A two-alarm fire threatened an Oildale restaurant on Monday morning, but Kern County firefighters saved the business after extinguishing the fire in an attic.
At around 10:45 a.m., KCFD received a report of a fire on the roof of a restaurant near Roberts Avenue and North Chester Lane. Crews en route saw light smoke visible from a distance coming from Tom's Burgers on Roberts Lane.
When they arrived, a second alarm was called when the smoke intensified and darkened.
When they arrived, they saw flames coming from Tom's Burgers kitchen ventilation system, and thick, black smoke coming out of the dining room and kitchen doors.
KCFD evacuated everyone, including employees from the restaurant.
Crews went inside and found the fire after they opened the roof. They quickly extinguished the fire found in the attic.
No one was found inside. No injuries were reported.
A Kern County Sheriff's deputy in the area called in the fire said a KCFD official. They said they saw an employee on the roof trying to extinguish the fire.
