Country star Darius Rucker pleads no contest in Tennessee drug case

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) -- The musician and Hootie & the Blowfish front man, pleaded "no contest" to drug-related chargesfrom his traffic stop earlier this year.

An officer reported that they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside the car.

After a probable cause search was carried out, a THC pen and 14 unmarked purple pills were found.

The "Wagon Wheel" singer was charged with simple possession, casual exchange and violation of registration law.

Seven months later, Rucker made the decision to plea "no contest" to his charge of simple possession of a controlled substance, with the charge of violation of registration law being dropped.

Rucker will be taking an 11 month and 29 day probation, and if fulfilled, will expunge his charges completely from his record.
