Patrol gets stronger as Delhi Police modernizes with new PCRs, bike patrols - BW Police World

On an average the Delhi Police control room receives 17000 to 20000 calls daily; the Delhi Police has 857 police control room vehicles running across the capital attending the emergencies and needs of the citizens

Patrol is one of the strongest arms of any police force and Delhi Police, with an aim to strengthen patrolling in the national capital have recently added new wheels to patrol unit,

Delhi CP Satish Golchha has ensured that presence of police personnel is seen. PCRs act as a psychological deterrent to criminals and anti-social elements and give comforting security to the citizens that the police are around.

The national capital police introduced 55 MPVs in the force. With the addition of 55 PCR MPVs, the total strength of the PCR fleet has now increased from 802 to 857 vehicles.

The Delhi Police has 857 police control room vehicles running across the capital attending the emergencies and needs of the citizens.

The infrastructural growth in the PCR has been the need of the hour in the present day. The Delhi Police has cater to a population of an estimate of 32.67 million citizens who often dial 112 for emergencies, road incidents, quarrels or also just inquiries.

On an average the Delhi Police control room receives 17000 to 20000 calls daily. The calls also include the inquiry calls seeking numbers or assistance of certain authorities. The actionable calls comprise of around 6000-7000 calls daily.

The Delhi Police began the expansion plan few months ago and decided to ensure that the first responders of the police, the patrolling unit it strengthened first.

The new 55 MPVs are Ertigga cars while the bikes are bullets and others.

The allocation of these newly inducted PCR MPVs has been made to Dwarka, Outer North, South, South-West, Rohini, Outer, and South-East districts.

156 refurbished Omni Motorcycles have been redeployed with the objective of enhancing police accessibility and presence in narrow lanes and congested localities.

These motorcycles are expected to play a significant role in strengthening police visibility, improving response to street-level crimes, and ensuring quick intervention in high-footfall or sensitive zones.

The new MPVs were inaugurated in a grand ceremony by Delhi CP Satish Golchha recently at the Delhi Police Headquarters. CP Golchha has also instructed officers to ensure the presence of PCRs is increased in the capital to ensure a sense of security among the citizens.

The Delhi Police had introduced all woman PCRs in 2016 and since its inception, the women patrol units have been advancing in their zones. There are 15 all women PCRs in Delhi Police with women staff trained like their male counterparts to handle all situations.

The Prakhar vans focus on curbing street crimes such as snatching and crimes against women, while the Parakram vans are tasked with anti-terror operations and armed responses. The Delhi Police also has tourist PCRs deployed at city's main attractions and monuments to immediately aide the tourists.

The PCRs are equipped with mandated items for response mechanism and rifles. The women PCRs also cater the same with additional facilities for the women personnel. The women PCRs are deployed whenever control room receives a call from a woman in distress and the women PCRs in close proximity are dispatched.

PCRs are not only a law and order control mechanism but also units catering to citizens in all needs.

The PCR personnel are trained to cater to emergencies, disputes, women in distress, accidents and road related incidents. In situations of medical emergencies, the woman PCRs have aided pregnant women and senior citizens in need of urgent care. In addition to these women PCRs, the 15 districts of Delhi Police also have all women units who have been given two wheelers to keep their presence in market areas, schools and colleges where minors and women frequent more.

DCP PCR Pawan Kumar said, "One of the recent challenging case we received was from Barakhamba area where a young man suffered a cardiac arrest. We received a PCR call and immediately the PCR team that reached there revived the person by giving CPR. It was not only challenging but with a humanitarian approach the PCR unit could save a man's life. Incidents like this are witnessed across the city where PCR unit aide citizens and even try to counsel during disputes".
