Macomb City Council to vote on marketing campaign

MACOMB (WGEM) - During the next Macomb City Council meeting, aldermen are set to vote on a partnership between the City and Spark, a Leap Group company.

This comes as city and community leaders aim to better share Macomb's message.

"We want to bring optimism and let people see what we have going on here," said City Administrator Scott Coker.

Coker believes Macomb needs to better publicize its quality of life.

Through Spark, a marketing plan will be created to share with Macomb and non-Macomb residents. That could be through different media platforms like print and digital services.

Coker envisions this marketing plan lasting more than just the initial phase.

"We need to keep this moving," Coker said. "Some of it depends on budgets moving forward, how much can we spend in the next few years, but I foresee at least a three-year project because we want to put something out there, but we want want to refine it over time. We can't keep saying the same message."

$45,000 is budgeted for the agreement, $20,000 of which is coming from the Park District.

Coker said the City is partnering with Western Illinois University, the Macomb Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Park District, and the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce. Each entity will have their own level of marketing.

Eight firms were initially interviewed in a request for proposal. Coker said Spark expressed the most interest in Macomb.

He said nothing like this has been done in his near decade of working for the City.
