A major recall involving some chocolate products has been issued across nine states following concerns over potential contamination, prompting an urgent warning to customers.
In an announcement posted on Saturday on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, the agency said Cal Yee Farm of Suisun Valley, California, was voluntarily recalling some of its chocolate- and yogurt-covered products, as well as nut products and some fruit products, because they may contain undeclared milk, FD&C #6, soy, wheat, sesame, and almonds.
FD&C #6, also known as Sunset Yellow FCF, is a synthetic food dye approved by the FDA for use in some foods. It provides an orange-yellow color and is commonly used in products like candies, beverages, baked goods, and certain medications.
The affected items were sold under Cal Yee's or Cal Yee Farm brands and the Boa Vista Orchards brand.
The affected items are listed below:
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to these ingredients are warned not to consume affected products, which were sold in stores in California, Arizona, Virginia, New Mexico, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as online, due to the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Customers are also advised to dispose of them or return them to Cal Yee Farm for a full refund.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
Cal Yee's or Cal Yee Farm products were sold in clear plastic zippered pouches available in 8-ounce, 1-pound, 2-pound, and 5-pound sizes. Each pouch features a bright yellow label on the front identifying the product, while the back displays a small white label with a UPC code.
Dark Chocolate Apricots were packaged in two styles of plastic containers, each labeled with either a white or yellow product label on the front and a small white UPC label on the back. Fruit Baskets came in a basket with a yellow label identifying the product on the back.
For Boa Vista Orchard's Butter Toffee Almonds, the product was sold in 6-ounce
The recall was initiated after an inspection of Cal Yee Farm by the FDA, which revealed that products containing milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6, and almonds were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of these ingredients.
