DETROIT -- A White Lake man has been charged with six counts of criminal sexual conduct in Highland Township where he was contracted as a substitute teacher, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald announced.

Timothy Allen Daugherty, 61, was arraigned Wednesday in Novi's 52-1st District Court. Allegations against Daugherty involve inappropriate sexual contact with three minor students and were first reported to law enforcement in April, according to the news release. Daugherty was suspended from work immediately after.

All six counts against Daugherty are for second-degree criminal sexual conduct, the charge associated with engaging in sexual contact with a person under 13 years of age, according to the complaint filed Wednesday.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and mandatory lifetime electronic monitoring upon parole, AIDS and sexually transmitted infection testing as well as DNA sampling upon arrest, the news release said.

"This was a trusted individual in a school that preyed upon kids," McDonald said in the news release. "I applaud the bravery of the young victims who came forward. The case will be handled by my office's Special Victims Unit, who will work diligently to secure justice for these children, parents, and the community."

Magistrate Robert Morad set Daugherty's bond at $75,000 with a GPS tether requirement if he is released, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

Daugherty's attorney was not immediately available to comment Thursday.

Officials with the Huron Valley Schools district, where Daughtery reportedly worked, also could not be reached immediately for comment Thursday.

Daugherty is next scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause conference on Sep. 18 at 10 a.m.

A preliminary examination has also been scheduled for Sep. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
