An Abingdon Virginia man is behind bars charged in connection with a domestic violence incident.
Dewey G. Johnson, 67, of Abingdon, Virginia, was arrested this week following an investigation by the Washington County Virginia Sheriff's Office.
He is charged with strangulation, kidnapping, attempted malicious wounding, being a felon possessing a firearm, use of firearm in commission of a felony (first offense) and shooting or throwing a missile at a vehicle with malice, according to a written statement.
On May 13, Washington County Virginia Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic violence incident that occurred near Denton Valley Road in Abingdon, Virginia. The assault included reports of a violent physical assault and a firearm being used, according to the statement.
Deputies located the victim's vehicle and found evidence consistent with the report, including bullet impacts. The case was then turned over to Criminal Investigations Division.

Detectives identified and interviewed the suspect. Following the investigation, he was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect's residence, where firearms were discovered. It was also determined that the suspect is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Johnson is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without bond.
