Naperville North senior Brian Biederman scored off a rebound midway through the second half of the Class 3A state semifinal against Lane Tech on Friday night and the Huskies made it hold up for a 1-0 victory.
The Huskies (24-0-4) will try to win their first state title since their three-peat (2016-2018) and fifth in program history against St. Laurence on Saturday at Hoffman Estates.
"Obviously, having the wherewithal and the confidence, the composure under the big lights and the brightest night of the year to bury it, that takes some guts and courage," Huskies coach Jim Konrad said. "He definitely earned it, but teammates did help get the ball there, too."
Senior Josh Pedersen (30 goals) had his shot knocked down by Lane Tech goalkeeper Evan Burgess, but Biederman was there to clean it up with 19:29 remaining.
It's been a heck of a week for Biederman, who scored twice in the Huskies win at Tuesday's supersectional in Normal to advance to state.
"Coach has been telling us to always follow shots," Biederman said. "Especially with it wet and skittish, I though immediately to crash to the goal. It was an incredible feeling. I'll remember it for a long time."
Naperville North won its 12th straight game and hasn't allowed a goal in the post-season.
"We take pride in the defense," Huskies senior defender Sam Hess said. "Defense comes first at all times, and we do all the little things and have a really good goalkeeper."
