In brief: Burgers in the Park, community days set and more in South Hills

Pleasant Hills Lions Club will serve burgers, hotdogs, chips nad drinks in Mowry Park, Shelter #1 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. June 7. Dine in or take out. Condiments will be available.

The Association of University People invites singles 50 and over who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble, meeting up at local outside concerts and wineries.

Pleasant Hills Arboretum open house

The Pleasant Hills Arboretum, 199 W. Bruceton Road in Pleasant Hills, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. In honor of that occasion, an open house is set for June 1 from noon-3 p.m. Some of the activities that will be happening are a tour of the trails by Paul Beck, a talk by ornithologist and former board member Bob Mulvihill about the birds that occupy the local trees, a talk by Matt Grassi about the Eagle Scout project that he was responsible for and a tree planting by some Pleasant Hills Middle School students. A representative from the Bartlett Tree Experts will be speaking about the tree inventory that they performed several years ago noting the condition of the trees in the wooded area.

State Rep. Andrew Kuzma (R-Allegheny) will be saying a few words recognizing the importance of the Arboretum to the region.

There will be refreshments, activities for the kids led by Becky from the Pleasant Hills Library and a raffle or two.

Parking is limited at the Arboretum so there will be a shuttle running from the Library and Freedom Life Church.

Baldwin Borough Community Day

The annual Baldwin Community Day is set for 4-8 p.m. June 14 at the borough's municipal building, 3344 Churchview Ave. Details on vendors and activities will be available on Facebook. Fireworks will follow the event at dark.

Baldwin Township Community Day

Baldwin Township's annual Community Day will take place in Armstrong Park from noon-4 p.m. June 22. Balloon aminals, face painting, games, bounce houses, food trucks, raffles and more are part of the activities planned. Attendees can also meet first responders. Jefferson Township Community Day

Live music, vendors and activities are on tap for Jefferson Hills Community Day, which will take place at Reilly Memorial Park from noon-10 p.m. June 14. Fireworks will cap off the event.

Volunteers are needed for the event. Each volunteer will receive a t-shirt to wear during the event and $10 for each two-hour shift worked. All volunteers will receive a letter verifying their hours.
