The New York Giants whiffed in their attempt to acquire quarterback Matthew Stafford from the Los Angeles Rams and are now being forced to pivot just a week before the official start of the new league year.
While general manager Joe Schoen will scour free agency for a potential veteran option, much of their attention will turn to the 2025 NFL draft where they hold the third overall pick. The issue facing them is that the perceived top two quarterbacks, Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, could be off the board before they're on the clock.
This is a problem the Giants are aware of and it's why they'll attempt to work out a deal with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 overall pick, reports Connor Hughes of SNY.
A bidding war with the Las Vegas Raiders is likely, and because a quarterback is the expected target, Tennessee might seek an additional compensation tax to any potential trade.
The Giants don't have a talented enough roster to be surrendering too many draft assets, but this is the corner Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have painted themselves into. And if they're not sold on any of the quarterbacks behind Ward, who has effectively established himself as QB1 in the class, they have no choice but to move up to No. 1 overall.
