PHOENIX (AZFamily) -- Are you heading to the central Phoenix area or up north to the High Country this weekend? Be on the lookout for these freeway closures that will affect your drive time.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, parts of I-10 and I-17 will be closed for work on improvement projects along Phoenix-area freeways. Drivers should allow extra time and use recommended detour routes.

If you are heading to central Phoenix or Sky Harbor Airport, westbound I-10 will be shut down between the I-17 "Split" interchange and the I-17 "Stack" interchange near McDowell Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Crews will be working on deck joint work as part of pavement improvements.

If you're taking a trip to Flagstaff this weekend, northbound I-17 will close between Happy Valley Road and the Loop 303 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a pavement improvement project.

In addition, the Loop 202 Red Mountain ramp to westbound I-10 will be open, but traffic must exit I-10 at 7th Avenue.

For Scottsdale drivers, the northbound Loop 101 Pima off-ramp at Raintree Drive will be closed for two months starting on Monday for reconstruction as part of a widening project. The ramp is scheduled to be closed until late April.

The main detour for westbound I-10 traffic will be to northbound I-17, where drivers can then reconnect with I-10 at the Stack interchange. Drivers near westbound I-10 north of downtown Phoenix can consider using westbound McDowell Road or Van Buren Street to travel beyond the closure.

If you need to get around the I-17 closure, use Happy Valley Road to Lake Pleasant Parkway. From there, use eastbound Loop 303 to get back onto I-17. ADOT recommends drivers shouldn't use neighborhood streets.
