With wind chills expected to reach at least 30 below zero on Tuesday morning, Omaha Public Schools and other area school districts announced remote learning plans or closures.
The National Weather Service issued an extreme cold warning in effect between 9 p.m. Monday and noon Tuesday, with wind chills between 30 and 36 below zero. With wind chills that low, frostbite and hypothermia can occur on exposed skin within 10 minutes. An extreme cold watch is in effect from Tuesday to Thursday.
As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, the following Omaha-area school districts announced remote learning days or closures:
Omaha Public Schools: Remote learning day
Council Bluffs Community Schools: Remote learning day
Bellevue Public Schools: Closed
Blair Community Schools: Closed
Ralston Public Schools: Closed
Gretna Public Schools: Closed
Westside Community Schools: Closed
Fort Calhoun Community Schools: Closed
Marian High School: Closed
