ARBOR VITAE, Wis. (WSAW) - A man and his dog are safe after a fire caused significant damage to their home in Arbor Vitae Tuesday.

Arbor Vitae Fire Rescue was called to an address on Maple Lane in Arbor Vitae for a report of a mobile home fire. When crews arrived, they found fire and smoke coming from beneath the home. The man was able to get out of the mobile home but his dog was still inside. One fire crew worked to put out the fire while another conducted a search inside the home. They were able to find the dog and reunited it with the owner. The owner did have minor burns on his hands from trying to put out the fire.

According to Arbor Vitae Fire Rescue, the fire caused about $30,000 of damage to the home. The Vilas County Sheriff's Office worked with the Salvation Army to find accommodations for the man.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but is not considered to be suspicious. The fire department says the extreme cold did not impact any part of their operation.
