Former Parkway star Aeron Burrell kicked off and made a tackle in LSU's season-opening 27-20 loss to USC Sunday night in Las Vegas.
The true freshman's first kickoff came after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against LSU receiver Kyren Lacy after Lacy scored the Tigers' first touchdown on a great 19-yard catch.
The 15-yard penalty meant Burrell had to kick off from the 20 instead of the 35. He booted it 64 yards to the USC 16. The Trojans' Zachariah Branch found an opening up the middle and returned it 46 yards to the LSU 43. Burrell made the tackle which possibly saved a touchdown.
The LSU defense held USC to a field goal which gave the Trojans a 10-7 lead.
Burrell kicked off twice in the second half, both for touchbacks.
He was generally considered the top kicker in the country last season at Parkway.
