LANSING, MI -- For the second time in the last week a Powerball player has won the jackpot as a lone ticket sold in California brought home the $44.3 million grand prize in the drawing held on Monday, Aug. 19.

That means the drawing on Wednesday, Aug. 21 will be worth $20 million with a cash option of $10 million.

Powerball is offered in 44 States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Players select five white numbers from (1 to 69) and one red ball (1 to 26). Tickets cost $2 each.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

And while they were lucky winners, it's smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Mega Millions winner worth $1 million sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state's School Aid Fund.
