Alberni District Secondary School senior boys earn spot in soccer Islands - Port Alberni Valley News

The Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS) senior boys soccer team has earned a spot in the 2025 Island championships.

The ADSS boys showcased grit and teamwork, at the North Island Championships held Oct. 23-24 in Comox, earning their place at the upcoming Islands.

In their opening match, ADSS faced off against Gulf Islands in a tightly contested battle that ended in a 1-1 draw. With minutes left on the clock, goalkeeper Marko Knezevic stepped up to take a free kick, delivering a precise ball that Yo Tachibana expertly headed in to equalize the game.

The ADSS Storm faced a tough challenge in their second match against a strong Carihi squad, ultimately falling short. However, the team bounced back with resilience on Day 2 in a must-win match against the Wellington Scorpions. With a berth to the Islands on the line, ADSS delivered a commanding 3-1 victory.

Javier Ortega opened the scoring with a textbook free kick into the top left corner. After Wellington leveled the score, Ortega calmly converted a penalty shot following a handball in the box.

Dylan Glenn sealed the win with a brace, helping ADSS secure their spot at the Island championships.

Coach Tim Crosby praised the team's performance. "Our team showed composure with an excellent team effort to come out on top," he said.

The ADSS Senior Boys have been busy preparing for the Islands, set to take place in Campbell River on Nov. 3-4.
