Lakers howling with laughter after Draymond Green's wild claim about Warriors

Brandin Podziemski: franchise cornerstone? If one were to ask Draymond Green about his thoughts on the matter, that is absolutely the case. The Golden State Warriors star believes in his young teammate being one of the players who will carry the team after he and Stephen Curry are gone.

Nick Friedell managed to capture Green's thoughts in a recent write-up for The Athletic. The Warriors forward has never been one to mince words. The ones shared here offer a good chuckle to their rivals, including the in-division competitors like the Los Angeles Lakers.

The comments from Green come as a follow-up to Podziemski expressing the desire to lead the next generation of Warriors basketball. The young guard knows the veterans in Golden State are creeping towards the end of their playing days, and wanted to set himself up in that position.

Green said, "To hear BP say that, it's exciting. ... The more you tell people, the more they try to use it against you and tear you down. So I think you can look at the trajectory of this thing and where it's all going, and we all believe he's going to be one of the guys that takes the torch and run with it."

Green was wise to caution Podziemski about vocalizing all his goals and desires in the manner that he has thus far. While no one will blame the four-time champion for encouraging his teammate to work towards a goal, it still does not take away from the chuckle in the moment.

Podziemski is a good basketball player, and should be due to get better. However, there just hasn't been enough evidence provided to really take these kinds of goals and expectations seriously from the Warriors guard.

In accordance with that, having Green double down only adds to the situation. At least this time, the Warriors do-it-all forward is nurturing the development of one of his young guards.

To be fair, guys like Green, Curry, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford, and others are all nearing the end of their careers. Someone will eventually have to fill the shoes at the top of their franchise.

The only real competition for Podziemski that is currently on the roster would be Jonathan Kuminga. That sentiment comes after an offseason of wondering how much interest the two sides had in continuing their partnership during the messy restricted free agency saga for the young forward.

Podziemski having the belief in himself is admirable. As is Green backing him up. It is still a touch funny to contrast that potential future to a team who will have Luka Doncic leading the way within close proximity.
