Brewers outfielder to get first start of playoffs in Game 3 against the Cubs

CHICAGO -- Brandon Lockridge received a little extra time to adjust to the news.

The Milwaukee Brewers right-handed outfielder will make his first start of the National League Division Series on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

"I got the lineup last night," he said before the game. "Normally you wake up when you're playing off the bench, you wake up and the nerves kind of settle in, but they settled in a little sooner last night when I found out I was starting."

Lockridge, who was acquired July 31 from the Padres, entered as a defensive substitution in each of the Brewers' first two NLDS games but did not receive an at-bat. He will start in center field and bat eighth after Blake Perkins started in center the opening two games.

"Lockridge deserves a chance, and it gives us some flexibility in the middle of the game," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said before the game. "You don't feel like the starter is going to go that far, we still have weapons in the middle of the game and guys we want to end the game."

Christian Yelich, who batted fourth in the first two games of the series, will bat leadoff Wednesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:08 p.m. and will be broadcast on TBS.
