VIDEO: Parenting Coach explains how to end bullying before it starts

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Many public school districts in central Wisconsin are just days away from the first day of classes for the new school year. And while 'bullying' has become a term infamously linked with the school year, finding practical advice on how to deal with it, is hard to find.

There is no question that victims of long-term bullying suffer from negative mental health outcomes. The American Psychological Association reports these effects include anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression. And those findings also show bullies themselves tend to feel the same way.

So what can parents do?

Lisa Bunnage is a Canadian-based parenting coach with a strong social media following on Tik Tok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. For nearly 20 years, she's helped guide parents through day-to-day struggles along with difficult circumstances through what she calls 'leadership parenting'.

Bunnage, who runs BratBusters Parenting reels from experience working with children over the decades.

"Knowing how to bring out the best in a child... It's what I teach," Bunnage said.

She shared her advice with NewsChannel 7 Digital Content Manager Heather Poltrock about how parents play a critical role in defeating bullies. And how parents should respond if they learn their child is bullying another child.
