Ryan Reynolds has recalled the moment he brought in Gwyneth Paltrow for an Astronomer ad right after the Coldplay kiss cam viral scandal.
Back in July, Andy Byron, the then-Astronomer CEO and the former HR executive Kristin Cabot were caught in an awkward embrace during Coldplay's concert. The moment went viral because the pair quickly ducked from the camera's view, prompting Chris Martin, lead singer of the band, to joke they could possibly be having an affair.
Both Byron and Cabot left the company, and Paltrow, who "cautiously uncoupled" from Martin in 2015, appeared in a one-minute PSA in a hysterical PR crisis move.
Reynolds' company, Maximum Effort, was involved in the ad and he opened up about how it came to life during a Q&A session at the Wall Street Journal's CMO Council Summit, per People.
"Just 14 hours later, I'm paying for that, [and I didn't] have their blessing yet, but I [knew] that nobody at that time... knew what Astronomer does. So I was like, 'What if Gwyneth explained it?'" Reynolds stated.
"It turns out, Astronomer's an amazing company. They really do some amazing stuff," the Deadpool actor explained.
In the PSA, Paltrow is seen sitting at a desk as the "temporary spokesperson," with the ad kicking off by the Oscar winner saying, "Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. Hi, I'm Gwyneth Paltrow. I've been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300 plus employees at Astronomer."
