Stamp of Approval for Bharat Diamond Bourse

(IDEX Online) - India's postal department has issued a special stamp marking 15 years since the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) moved into its new home at the Bandra Kurla Complex, in Mumbai.

It also marks 41 years since the incorporation of BDB, which claims almost 90 per cent of the world's polished diamonds pass through it before being exported.

BDB is home to 3,000 offices and 5,250 members, but is bracing itself for competition from the physically larger (though near-empty) Surat Diamond Bourse, which officially opened in December 2023.

It has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest office building in existence, but only a few hundred of its 4,000-plus offices are currently occupied.

India's Department of Posts released the BDB stamp yesterday (17 October) in recognition of its "outstanding contribution to India's diamond industry and global trade excellence".

Anoop Mehta, BDB president, said: "From a bold idea conceived over four decades ago to a thriving global trading hub, BDB stands today as a testament to the strength and resilience of India's diamond fraternity. Our success is built on trust, transparency, and teamwork, the true gems of this institution."
