New heart monitoring equipment to improve care for hospital patients

New heart monitoring equipment is set to improve care for patients with suspected arrhythmias.

Prince Philip Hospital's cardio-respiratory department has received 10 new Eclipse Pro Extended Holter Recorders, funded by Hywel Dda Health Charities at a cost of more than £8,300.

The devices will support expanded heart rhythm monitoring and improved diagnostic accuracy.

Llinos Millard, cardiac and respiratory healthcare science manager, said: "We're so grateful that charitable funds have enabled us to purchase 10 new holter ambulatory monitors.

"We are able to offer high-quality ECG monitoring with advanced diagnostic features, which contributes to the delivery of an effective and efficient arrhythmias recognition service."

Holter monitors are compact devices that record a patient's heart activity over an extended period, either in hospital or at home.

The new equipment will allow for longer and more detailed monitoring, helping clinicians make more informed treatment decisions.

Ms Millard said: "The increased quality of the data gathered can ensure greater accuracy of analysis of the patient's recording, enabling us to provide a more thorough, timely and accurate treatment plan."

Nicola Llewelyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: "The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive."
