Augustus Kargbo's emotional reaction after Blackburn Rovers apology

Augustus Kargbo's emotional reaction after Blackburn Rovers apology

Augustus Kargbo cut an emotional figure as he reflected on his first Blackburn Rovers goal after a difficult week.

The winger came under fire for his role in Swansea City's winner in midweek. That led to the forward deleting his Instagram account and getting backing from Valerien Ismael, who took aim at social media abuse.

That was not to disguise the mistake of Kargbo's, for which he apologised to his team-mate and staff in the aftermath.

It made it all the sweeter, then, when he arrived from the bench to score the equaliser against Stoke City. It was a redemption moment which gave him plenty of happiness.

"It makes it even more special. I was quite emotional after (Swansea)," he told Rovers TV.

"That's life, you know. You can have a few bad days, good days. The important thing is you never give up. You can make a mistake tomorrow and try to correct it in the next game.

"This is my job. This is football and this is life. I never give up, even in the darkest moments, you try to be strong. I'm happy that I was able to contribute today and help the team."

"It has always been on my mind to try to help the team, to try to give my best. You know, it can go the wrong way sometimes. It's like today, everything went well," he continued.

"It's always my mentality. You know, you can fall short. You can, get the most from the day. The most important thing is to give your best and try to help as much as you can.

"In the last game, I didn't do that. You know, I realised that. We talked about that in the training ground, with the coach, with my teammates.

"I apologised for what I did wrong. The gaffer said to try to prove yourself on the pitch and that's what I tried to do.

"I got messages from different people trying to support me in the club. The club was there, my teammates and physio, everybody has been helping me, have been there for me.

"The most important thing is the internal atmosphere. They have all helped since I arrived here and it's good to feel your team-mates and the staff trust you.

"When I scored, I saw them coming around. Some are saying, you deserve this and that's what it is about."

It's easy to forget that was Kargbo's first league strike. He's had opportunities to break his duck previously, most notably against Norwich City.

He's hopeful that this breakthrough will help his confidence moving forward with Blackburn.

"I've been waiting so long to score my first goal for the club in the Championship," he smiled.

"When I stopped the ball, to be honest, I thought I've had a similar chance against Norwich, where I stopped the ball, I pushed and tried to shoot. Luckily for me today, this one went in.

"You always want to be involved, you know, in creating chances and scoring goals. So it's quite a good feeling and it's good for the confidence as well."
