How a Buffalo Bills LB's film study session turned into the most important play of Thursday Night Football

Terrel Bernard came up with the biggest play of the game when the Buffalo Bills needed it most.

Trailing 28-21 with just a little over three minutes remaining in the game, the Miami Dolphins found themselves on the Bills' 21-yard line with a fresh set of downs. It seemed as if Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins were bound to tie the game, but Bernard recognized a play pre-snap.

According to the linebacker, his coach, Al Holcomb, had him prepared for the play. Post-game, Bernard credited Holcomb for playing the video of the play multiple times leading up to the game. He added that he needed to make the play as Holcomb put some fear into him.

"You know, it was a play we saw on tape," Bernard told Amazon's Kaylee Hartung. "My linebacker coach, Al Holcomb, he played it a couple of times and he said if I didn't get it, there was going to be something to pay."

Holcomb's tape session with Bernard and the linebackers proved to be beneficial on Thursday Night Football and Bernard can sleep easy knowing he didn't let his coach down.

Buffalo moved to 3-0 following their 31-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins. The team will now have extra time to prepare for next Sunday when they host the New Orleans Saints.

Miami, meanwhile, moved to 0-3 on the year. The Dolphins have dug themselves into a deep hole to start the 2025 season, but they proved on Thursday Night Football that they have not quit on head coach Mike McDaniel.
