SBN Reacts: Mizzou fans have high expectations in 2024

In less than two weeks, Mizzou will be playing real, live, actual, meaningful football.

As we creep closer toward the end of fall camp and the beginning of the season proper, the conversation around Mizzou fans has shifted away from "what can Mizzou do to get better" toward "what does Mizzou being better actually look like?" We've prognosticated about that plenty ourselves here and over at RM+. But we also wanted to know what the wider readership thinks. So, in classic SB Nation fashion, we posed the question to you...

I should say I'm not surprised that "10 wins, CFP contention" was the winner, but I have to say that I'm blown away with how the top two answers stacked up. Eighty percent -- four out of every five! -- of you said that Mizzou has to win 10 or more games and be in the CFP conversation for this season to even be considered successful. Whew. Good for y'all!

Personally, I'd be more than OK with 9 wins, as I think that accounts for any regression and at least two swing games going against the Tigers. But expectations have been raised after a historical 2023 campaign. Fair play: the Tigers themselves seem to be holding a high standard.

For kicks and giggles, we also asked y'all which of the position groups had the most to prove. Given the turnover on multiple fronts, it seems like some units are under more scrutiny than others.

Fair enough. I wonder if people would've felt differently after this week's announcement that Darris Smith will miss the entire 2024 season. While I also think the secondary has the most questions to answer in terms of meeting last year's level, I do worry slightly more about the depth on the line with Smith out.
