MANILA, Philippines - Just hours after a magnitude 7.4 tremor that caused damage in parts of Mindanao, a new magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental at 7:12 pm on Friday, October 10.
The latest earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said aftershocks and damage were expected. Initial information showed Intensity IV was felt in Davao City and Bislig City, Surigao del Norte.
The agency also issued a tsunami warning for people living in coastal areas in Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Surigao del Norte.
"It is forecasted that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 07:12 pm to 09:12 pm. These waves may continue for hours," Phivolcs said in its bulletin. - Rappler.com
