Pro Amy Dowden, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, is now back on the dancefloor.
Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden shared a photo from during her cancer fight as she urged people to remember that the disease "doesn't discriminate".
The dancer received a breast cancer diagnosis in 2023 and underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy treatment. She made her comeback to the BBC dance competition for its 2024 series but was forced to withdraw following a stress fracture in her shin.
Amy has now returned to the dancefloor, where she's been partnered with former Apprentice candidate Thomas Skinner for the current series. Posting the throwback image, she revealed to followers that two years after it was captured she was "happy", "stronger" and excited about rehearsals.
Shared on Instagram, the photograph showed the star wearing pyjamas whilst in bed, flashing a thumbs up gesture, reports Wales Online.
She revealed to fans: "Two years ago I was back in hospital with another infection! Got my thumb up here as I was told I could finally go home!
"Two years later here I am happy, stronger and doing what I love with a day of dancing ahead!
"But if I wasn't checking myself, it would be a very different outcome! If you're not checking, who is?"
"Cancer doesn't discriminate," the dancer emphasised.
Amy and Thomas delivered their debut performance on the Strictly dancefloor last weekend, achieving 16 points from a potential 40 for their Paso Doble routine.
"WOW - what an opening night!" she posted on Instagram following their performance.
"STRICTLY is back and I couldn't be happier! @iamtomskinner from the boardroom to the ballroom, from notepads to knee pads - you gave it 110%, and I'm so proud of how our first performance went."
Amy continued: "As a total beginner, you've thrown yourself into everything Strictly is about, and watching you soak up the joy of dancing makes me so excited for what Week 2 will bring.
"Massive well done to everyone who danced last night the atmosphere was electric, and the love and support we all share is truly something special."
