World Champion Boxer Jaismine credits mentor for success, eyes Olympic Gold

JAMMU, Sept 30: Indian Army boxer Jaismine Lamboria, who recently made history by winning gold in the 57 kg category at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, paid her first visit to Jammu to meet and dedicate her medal to her mentor and mental trainer, Vickrant Mahajan.

Competing in what is widely regarded as the toughest weight division in women's boxing, Jaismine overcame top-tier opponents from Ukraine, Brazil, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Poland. Her success on the global stage has been attributed not just to her physical skill, but also to her remarkable mental resilience - something she credits to her association with Mahajan.

"I started boxing at the age of 10 in Haryana, inspired and coached by my uncle, an international boxer," said Jaismine. "In 2022, I joined the Indian Army and now, after becoming World Champion, my next target is an Olympic medal."

Jaismine shared that her career took a significant turn after meeting Vickrant Mahajan during a workshop at NIS Patiala, introduced by fellow boxer Arundhati Choudhary. "I can clearly divide my career into two halves - before meeting Vickrant and after meeting him," she said.

Their partnership led to the creation of the Goalete program, a mental training initiative focused on goal-setting and peak performance. Jaismine joined Mahajan's Goalete Club, took part in daily mental conditioning sessions, and read his inspirational books Goalete and Goal Is Gold, the latter having a profound impact on her mindset.

Since then, her journey has been nothing short of extraordinary - qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics, being adjudged Best Boxer at the national Championships, winning gold at the 2025 World Cup in Kazakhstan and ultimately being crowned World Champion.

Speaking about her future, Vickrant Mahajan said, "Becoming a World Champion is just the beginning. Together, we aim to achieve multiple world titles and Olympic golds, setting a powerful example in Indian sports of what one can achieve through clear goals and strong mental focus."
